Udghosh 2018, the 15th edition of India’s largest sports fest is here with a bang on 4-7 October,2018. Being an institution for one of the brightest minds of the country, IIT Kanpur has achieved exemplary heights in academics and research but the institute also never forgets the importance of cultural and sports activities in students’ lives. Throwing light upon the sportsmanship among the students, IIT Kanpur organizes Udghosh as it’s annual sports fest with over 200 colleges from all over India showcasing their talent and the spirit of sportsmanship.
Udghosh has been a great success all over the years with 22 sports events in which over 2500 students, both boys and girls participate with all their enthusiasm. The major events of Udghosh 2018 include: football, cricket, hockey, lawn tennis, basketball, badminton, athletics, skating, kabaddi, volleyball, squash, taekwondo, swimming, carrom, chess, weightlifting, table tennis and sports quiz. Also, Udghosh is topped with informals like scavenger hunt, blind date, musical chairs, poker, air hockey, mechanical bull, paintball, zorb football, archery, sumo wrestling, human foosball and ball dance. With such great events at stake, the fest has over 60,000 footfalls and 200,000 eyeballs.
The crackers in these nuts are the pronites, EDM nites, concerts, comedy nites, entertainment shows,etc. with the most eminent sports personalities like Abhinav Bindra, Gaurav Taneja, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ashwini Pannappa, Piyush Chawla, Seema Antil, RP Singh, Syed Kirmani and Dhanraj Pillay visiting the campus during the fest. Apart from all these events, Udghosh also supports social initiatives and partners with NGOs to spread the social cause. Saathi and Udaan are two such initiatives the fest supports with all it’s power. This edition has taken initiatives like blood donation, don’t drink and drive, plant a tree and child education. It also organizes marathons and cyclothons to aid the social awareness programs. With this, it also has in stake NOSSQ and UYC with substantial participation from 20,000+ schools.
Udghosh serves as a huge platform for sports skills and alongside has nothing less required for a 4-day long enthusiasm filled plethora of activities to keep all engaged.
