For last few years Electronics Engineering has been very dynamic with the rapid growth of portable and mobile communication devices. This is a specialization of engineering which actually got derived from Electrical Engineering and found its own original shape very quickly. The evolution of embedded systems linked this branch with Computer Science Engineering to a large extend.

Electronics Engineering covers few sub disciplines:

    Sir/Madam,
Can you please give me some knowledge about whether doing mtech in DIAT Pune is worth compared to IIT’s and IISc related to placements and future propects.
    Thankyou.

      Dear Aditya,

If you have opportunity to go for IISC or any of the IIT, then I would suggest go for that other than going for DIAT. If you have interest in research then you would never get a place better than IISC in India. IITs come after IISC. These are the place which provide you better research environment during M.Tech and also open the door for higher research scope after your M.Tech. IITs have better track record in placement than DIAT also.

No doubt DIAT is a very good institute. DIAT has become an official centre for recruitment of civilian scientists in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) source
Also if you have interest in specializations like: Guided missile (Aerospace), Radar and communication (electronics), Laser & Optics (Applied Physics), Armament and combat vehicles (mechanical); then definitely DIAT is one of the best place in India.

But still I would suggest if you have option to go for IISC or any of the old IITs then go for that. Otherwise DIAT is also a good option.

    Respected Sir,
What is the scope for research positions like JRF in organisations like CMET, DRDO? Is there any chance of getting permanent job in such organisations if good research work is carried out?

      Dear Krishnan,

CMET and DRDO like organizations keeps on posting the vacancy for JRF positions throughout the year according to their requirement in different projects. So, you need to regularly visit their website to get the notification. Regarding the scope for research positions; if your profile matches their requirement, then they would give you an interview call. Getting a permanent post based on your performance in research position is totally organization dependent. If they have vacancy then they might recruit, but there is nothing like surety. Of course good research work always has value. So, if you have research experience of 1 or 2 years in these type of organization, that would definitely help you in future.

      Hey Subhankar,

From your comment, it seems like you are interested in research. In my suggestion new IITs, IIST and DIAT can be considered equally. The only criteria to chose a particular institute on the basis of the faculties and their research in Communication Engineering. Do search for each institute, who are the faculty members working aligning to your interest area and what are their recent publications.

From NITs, I would suggest you can check for few good ones (Like Trichi, Warangal, Suratkal, Allahabad, Bhopal, Rourkela)… I would suggest you to check for IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Delhi also.

          Hey Subhankar,

With this rank, I guess you can get into a new IIT. Try for IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Hyderabad if possible. These two promote research a lot.

      Dear Subhankar,

No doubt MS from IIT Kanpur is much better than M.Tech form any NIT (No matter whether it is a top ranking NIT). In India you can get the best research environment in IIT Kanpur (equivalent to IISC, IIT Bombay and TIFR). Also you can earn the recommendations from the eminent professors. This would help you a lot to get an admission to PhD in top Universities in USA.

Also keep in mind if you have a plan for PhD in future then a MS degree that to from IIT Kanpur would always help you more than any M.Tech degree as MS degree are more towards research than M.Tech Degrees.

      All the Best for future!

      Dear Subhankar,
IIT Madras is equally good as IIT Kanpur. If you have interest in telecom (as the project is on 5G) then there is no problem in going for IIT Madras. Also you have an additional advantage of working under an renowned expert as you have mentioned. Thumbs up for IIT Madras. Also place wise Madras has more opportunities and flexibility than Kanpur.
