        Dear Rashi,

Can you please specify your preferred branch?

It would be nice if you can list out your preferred institutes so that I can figure out where can you get the admission…

Otherwise there can be numerous options which is difficult to mention over here…

        Hi Pradyumna,
Sorry for a delayed reply. With 92.8 percentile your rank may be around 65K. But this is difficult to predict the things accurately this time as JEE is being conducted twice this year for the first time. But to be predictive, it is difficult to get through any NIT with this score. May be you can try for state GECs.

        Hi Dishant,

With your rank, there is a chance of getting CSE / ECE in your home state NIT. You can try for other state NITs or your home state NIT for rare engineering branches such as Chemical, Production, Bio-Tech etc. (https://www.igniteengineers.com/rare-engineering-branches/). I would suggest you to go for IIITs if you are getting CSE / ECE there rather than joining rare branches in lower ranked NITs.

You might try the following preference order:

        1. IIIT Jabalpur ECE / Mech
        2. IIITDM Kancheepuram Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Smart Manufacturing
        3. IIIT Sri City CSE / ECE
        4. IIIT Guwahati CSE / ECE
        5. IIIT Lucknow CSE
        6. IIIT Surat ECE
        7. IIIT Pune CSE / ECE
        8. IIITDM Kurnool Computer Engineering
        9. IIIT Kottayam CSE
        10. IIIT Vadodara CSE / ECE

      Hi Siddhesh,

All the three Institutes are very good.

Both COEP and VJTI are even more than 200 years old institutes. Well established and carries plethora of history in producing good engineers. You can even find more about these two institutes in the following link:

      https://www.igniteengineers.com/15-oldest-engineering-colleges-in-india/

Even though IIIT Pune is a pretty new Institutes, but all the IIITs are growing very rapidly. With very good infrastructure and faculty members, IIITs are doing great.

Though all 3 institutes are good, my preference order would be as follows:

      1. VJTI
      2. COEP
      3. IIIT Pune

      Dear Sushama,

Very sorry for the delayed response…

You have a fair chance of getting admission to good IITs as well. But I don’t think you can find spare time to prepare something else with IIT curriculum. Still if you want to do so, then you can go for IIT BHU, ISM Dhanbad and the other new IITs (Other than IIT Hyderabad and IIT Gandhi Nagar). This is a personal suggestion, There is no motive to defame the curriculum of the respective IITs.

I would suggest you to to join CSE in IIIT Dharwad. This is a good institute and expected to grow fast as is mentored by IIIT Bangalore and Infosys.

SASTRA is also a good and old university but is a private one. If you have interest for EEE branch then go for SASTRA, otherwise join IIIT Dharwad CSE.

Go for any IIT CSE program. You will easily get placed to foreign companies. You need not to go for explicitly an international program for this. You can also join B.Tech in AI in IIT Hyderabad. Ai is in boom now-a-days. You can get a very good job in multinational company in this domain.

      Dear Suresh,

All the branches are good. Metallurgy and material science is a good branch. It has job opportunities in government sectors as well as several plants in India. You have good option for higher studies in such sectors. You might not find ample jobs like computer science, but the competition is also low for this branch.

NIT Nagpur is considered as a good institute for MME. Other NITs you can consider are Warangal, Trichy, Surathkal, Jaipur, Rourkela, Durgapur and Jamshedpur.

          Dear Vijay Ji,

Since You are from Telengana, your home NIT is NIT Warangal (Which looks difficult to get in with 21400 rank).
So We need to look for the NIT of other states or IIITs. I am mentioning few of the most suitable institutes where there is a chance of your son to get a seat. I feel the below mentioned IIITs are better than the NITs where your son can get a seat. So I am only mentioning the IIITs over here. Last 2 institutes are even better than the ones mentioned from 1 to 5, but they are more competitive. I believe, your son can surely get a seat in anyone among the institutes listed from 1 to 5.

          1. IIIT Sri City
          2. IIIT Srirangam
          3. IIITDM Kurnool

          Hi Anusha,

HBTU is better than IIIT Lucknow. This is because HBTU is pretty old institute, so it has very good placement record. IIIT Lucknow is pretty new, but it will grow very soon. So, you can consider IIIT Lucknow after HBTU.

If you are staying in NCR region, then you can try for IIIT Delhi, DTU and NSIT as well. All these three institutes are very good.

      Dear Monoj ji,

Let me start with your last question. Looking to the Indian market, I can suggest you to go for CS/IT. There are pretty good companies in software like Google, Facebook, Adobe and many more. There companies offer handsome perks. Also, this branch provides good opportunities for higher studies abroad (Of-course higher study is an open option for all the branches).

I am listing down 10 preferred colleges according to your son’s rank. I am not restricting my preference to NCR region, as I think better college is more important than the place restriction. I would also suggest you to encourage your son to stay in hostel (which will be a case if he would get a seat in a college outside NCR region) even if he would get a seat in NCR region. This actually will make your son responsible and would help in building his personality (which is a must required thing after his graduation).

      1. IIIT Sricity (CSE/ECE)
      2. IIITDM Jabalpur (ECE)

      9. IIIT Surat (CSE/ECE)
      10. IIIT Bhubaneswar (CSE/ECE)

With the mentioned rank, it is difficult to get into a good NIT with CSE/ECE. So, I have mentioned the IIITs only. The mentioned institutes are very good.
Since you stay in Delhi, you can also look for IIIT Delhi, DTU Delhi, HBTU Kanpur, NSIT Delhi.

            Dear Manoj ji,

You can consider IIIT Pune, IIIT Lucknow and IIIT Kota CSE equivalent to IIIT Jabalpur ECE. The only benefit with IIIT Jabalpur is that, it is a pretty old institute. But these 3 new IIITs are also doing good. Now you need to rethink which branch you are interested in. If you are interested in CSE then you can go for anyone of the new ones. Or you can go for IIIT Jabalpur ECE.

          Dear Abinash,

IIIT Bhubaneswar is not as good as IIIT Delhi or IIIT Allahabad. But it is considered as a good institute. In Odisha, you can consider the institute among top 5 institutes. You can go for CSE in IIIT Bhubaneswar without any worry.

Sorry for such a late reply.
LNMIIT Jaipur is a good option. It is a very good private technical institute.
You can get CSE in following IIITs:
      1. IIIT Nagpur
      2. IIIT Bhopal
      3. IIIT Kottayam
      4. IIIT Kurnool
      5. IIIT Bhagalpur
      6. IIIT Ranchi
      7. IIIT Manipur

    Hello Sidhartha
My son has got a rank of 105616. I know its a poor score. But it would help if you could suggest the best possible options under the given situation. He is keen on pursuing the CSE branch. Pune is the home city.

As a matter of fact, is it even worthwhile to attend JoSAA?
I was told that IIIT Una, IIIT Pune could be tried but I am really confused.

    Regards.

      Dear Arora ji,

With the mentioned score it is really difficult to get into any IIIT. Getting CSE in IIIT would be even difficult. If you are extremely lucky then you might get a seat in special round of JoSAA.

I would suggest you should look for good private universities.

Would you share your feedback/analysis about the colleges in Pune vis-a-vis the private institutes that you had listed i.e. vit, srm, SASTRA, amrita, nirma, LNMIIT.

I understand after after the govt. college COEP, some of the known institutes in Pune are: VIT, PICT, MIT, Bharti Vidyapeeth, D Y Patil. Also Symbiosis Institute of Technology.

    Thanks.

      Hi,

The institutes I have mentioned are considered as very good private universities at national level.

The institutes you have mentioned are also good but mostly known in Pune. COEP is govt. and considered as very good. If you are getting a seat in COEP then go for it. Otherwise you can consider the colleges which I have mentioned. Thaper can also be added to my list. If you want to be in Pune then the preference order can be exactly the same way you have mentioned.

      Dear Balaji ji,

      1. IT is completely software oriented program, whereas CSE is inclined to both software and computer hardware. Mostly CSE is preferred over IT.
      2. Yes CSE in IIITDM Kancheepuram is good. It is both software and hardware oriented.
      3. You can prefer IT of IIITA over CSE of IIIT Gwalior and IIITDM Kancheepuram. CSE form NIT Warangal can be preferred over IT from IIITA.
      4. The preferred colleges for CSE/IT are as below:

      1. NIT Warangal
      2. NIT Allahabad
      3. IIIT Hyderabad
      4. IIIT Delhi
      5. NIT Suratkal
      6. IIIT Allahabad
      7. NIT Calicut
      8. IIIT Gwalior
      9. NIT Jaipur
      10. NIT Rourkela
      11. NIT Bhopal
      12. IIITDM Kancheepuram

Thanks Sidhartha for your advise. it really helpful for the parent like me.

You Left Trichy. I Think it is less chance to get it.

IF we don’t go For IT in IIITA ( is it a correct decision)

and IIITH is having separate admission process, Which other 2 colleges I Can Choose.

IS NIT syllabus are all Latest compared to IIIT.

    Really appreciate your Service .

      Dear Balaji ji,

NIT Trichy is the most competitive one ane sits at the top of the NIT ranking list. If you can get a seat here then it is the best option after IITs.

I would recommend to go for IIITA IT. As it is a very good institute with very good placement record.

The other 2 colleges you can chose as NIT Surat and NIT Durgapur.

NITs syllabus are equally good as IIITs syllabus.

      Dear Arora ji,

There is no institute named International Institute of Technology in Pune. There is International Institute of Information Technology (I Square IT) in Pune. This institute is kind of OK institute. Not a very great institute according to my opinion. It is generally confused as the sister institutes of other International Institutes of Information Technology in India, which is not true. This also not so good in comparison to the other IIITs. The other institutes which you have mentioned, in comparison to them, this is a similar kind of institute which can be considered as well.

Is there a big difference between CSE and IT. Is MNNIT CSE is better than IIITA IT or other way around. which option I put first.

Similarly NITK IT is better than MNNIT CSE. Please advise

      Dear Balaji ji,

Generally CSE is considered better than IT (This is from the point of view of Companies prospective). The course structure of IT is completely software oriented whereas CSE includes few hardware oriented courses like Microprocessors, Computer Organization and Architectures etc. along with the core software oriented courses. But both the specializations have their own pros and cons.

The doubt of choosing between CSE and IT should come into picture when you are choosing between these two branches within the same institute (in case of NITK). This is because while the companies would visit, they would find both CSE and IT students and they might prefer CSE over IT students. But if an institute has only IT branch and it is a good institute (in case of IIITA IT) then you can definitely go for IT in that institute.

I would suggest you the preference order as below:
      1. MNNIT CSE
      2. IIITA IT
      3. NITK IT

With a percantile of 93.5% in MHCET, where do you think we stand in terms of getting a seat in CS/IT in VIT, PICT, MIT, Bharti Vidyapeeth, D Y Patil, Symbiosis Institute of Technology, VJTI.
Not sure if there are more colleges considered to be good in CS/IT. If so please do mention them too.

    Many Thanks.
