Both “Computer Science” and “Management” have been existing for many years and an “MBA in Information Technology” tries to bridge the gap between the two by helping students to be professionals who are adept in understanding the concepts of both computer science and management principles. MBA (IT) – an Overview

An MBA in Information technology combines both business subjects and information technology systems and their policies. In most cases B-school students pursuing MBA (IT) are taught management principles and their applications in a workplace in the first year while the second year of the MBA course focuses on core IT subjects. Some of the commonly found topics in the first year of the course are “Economics”, “Organizational Behavior”, “International Business” and “Principles of Management”. The second year of the course often includes subjects like “Information Security”, “Telecommunications” and “Management Software Development”.

With nearly all businesses expanding their horizon to the internet, MBAs in IT are in demand. e-Commerce and information security are two sectors that have seen a massive boost in recent years and managers who have adept knowledge about the technology world can easily handle the responsibilities of online businesses, IT security firms, core IT companies and other technologically inclined businesses. An MBA in IT not only provides candidates with the right skills to manage any technology based company but also know how to start up their own businesses. Candidates who graduate with an MBA in Information Technology have a keen understanding of management practices and keep up with the latest technological trends. An MBA in Information Technology is a great option for computer science engineers as they already have a foundation in information technology and they can build upon it in their post-graduation.

An information technology manager earns approximately 3.6 lakh INR when starting out while the median salary of experienced professionals with at least 5 years of experience is approximately 9.6 lakh INR.
