National Institute of Technologies (NITs) are considered next to IITs in India. You can find information about IITs in “IITs in India“. NITs being the Technical Institutes of National Importance are responsible for producing many efficient engineers every year. Before 2002, most of these NITs were known as Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs). In 2010, after the Government of India established 10 new NITs, all the states of India are enjoying the privilege of owing one NIT of its own. Students who just miss out IITs normally join NITs. 1) Maulana Azad NIT, Bhopal was founded in 1960 , not 1986.
2) All RECs were upgraded to NITs and central government took control to run these Institutes, in 2003, not 2010. (source: wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_RECs).

Year 2010 is for some of the new NITs.
